About The Project Site

Natural Instinct is working in partnership with Australian Rainforest Foundation to build vital links in Australia's Daintree rainforest.

Hero 2 is the centrepiece of the ARF's efforts in the Daintree. It is 200 acres of land at Cape Tribulation.

The block joins the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area with Thompson Creek flowing through its centre. The land has been identified by scientists as having exceptional ecological vulnerable containing many rare and threatened species including the endangered cassowary.

A little over a quarter of the allotment had been previously cleared for farming and through the Natural Instinct contribution this area is being re-established to provide vital habitat for these unique and threatened animals using locally sourced plants which in themselves are helping protect vulnerable plant species of the area. The Natural Instinct Project is also ensuring the protection of intact remnant riparian rainforest on the site adjacent to Thompson Creek and in fragmented patches of re-growth in the cleared areas. In addition, Australian Rainforest Foundation with the assistance of Natural Instinct is controlling a range of environmental weeds and introduced species which occur in these cleared areas and on the forest's margins.

The Australian Rainforest Foundation has built a specialist nursery close to the site to gather seeds and forest stems for use in the revegetation. The ARF estimates that 30,000 trees may be needed to complete the revegetation of this essential forest link.

Natural Instinct is proud to join with Australian Rainforest Foundation to become a Hero2 Partner Organisation.

Some mature trees remain on the site and the initial plantings will expand out from this tree line

The endangered Cassowary is regularly seen on the property
