What is Hero2
Hero2 is an Australian Rainforest
Foundation project and an opportunity for all Australians
to fight climate change and protect and extend Australia’s
ancient rainforests.
The Australian Rainforest Foundation
believes all Australians have a duty to protect the environment.
For more than a decade it has, with the help of governments,
corporations and private individuals, been working hard to protect
one of the world’s
oldest and most mega-diverse rainforests, the Daintree in Far
North Queensland. This work remains a mere drop in the ocean – the
Foundation now needs as much help as possible to protect all
rainforests across Australia and to do this is recruiting Hero2’s.
How does Hero2 work?
The ARF's Hero2 Program is all about being smart in how we compensate for our impact on the environment.
Our aim is to strategically multiply our efforts to offset our 'carbon footprint' to have a greater impact on reducing global warming. Importantly, HERO2 is an on the ground Australian project focused on the world's oldest rainforest - one of the most biodiverse on the planet and one that is already giving up cancer curing drugs.
The Hero2 program has three compensation multipliers;
1. Protecting old growth forests through a land acquisition scheme.
The biodiversity multiplier.
By protecting old growth forests we know we can help prevent global warming. Rainforests recycle their own rain, making lots of clouds in the atmosphere that keep some of the sun's heat from reaching the ground.
This helps to keep the planet cooler. Many of our medicines also come from plants that grow in old growth rainforests. Protecting old growth forests through strategic acquisition of private rainforest not only means looking after the health of our planet but the future health of our population.
60% of your contribution goes towards protecting existing rainforest.
2. Extending the rainforest by strategically planting a mix of new forest species.
The carbon sequestration multiplier.
New forest plantings add oxygen to the air while taking out carbon dioxide. We aim to plant enough new trees to offset much of the energy consumed by living, working and relaxing.
30% of your contribution helps us extend the rainforest.
3. Recovery programs for rare threatened or endangered species
The future generations multiplier.
We recognise that global warming can deliver a devastating blow to many of our rare, threatened and endangered species. Protecting them takes many forms - from wildlife hospitals, DNA research and breeding programs to habitat rehabilitation and protection.
10% of your contribution goes to our recovery program.
